Dept. of Interior Issues Ruling on Fatal Rig Explosion
The U.S. Department of the Interior’s Bureau of Safety and Environmental Enforcement has released the results of a year-long panel investigation into a 2012 explosion and fire on a Gulf of Mexico platform that killed three workers and a half-mile oil slick.
The BSEE said there were 41 Incidents of Non-Compliance that surrounded the explosion, and cited Black Elk Energy Offshore Operations, Wood Group Production Services Network, Grand Isle Shipyard, and Compass Engineering Consultants for failing to uphold standards of construction that could have prevented the accident.
